BIBLICAL RECOLLECTIONS FOR STUDENTS CONDUCTED BY JPIBC

“…the Bible should be the constant companion of young people so that it can help them navigate through life’s dark moments and past the deceit and erroneous ideas present in today’s world.”

Pope Benedict XVI

… words from the Holy Father addressed to our youth of today to encounter the WORD.

This year, Fr. Jaimelito G. Gealan, SVD, the Campus Minister (also the director of John Paul I Biblical Center) and Fr. Dominador Fernandez, SVD, the assistant Campus Minister of Divine Word College of Vigan asked the help of JPIBC staff to facilitate a series of biblical recollections for High School students of the said institution. There was a good collaboration with the involvement of the Head Coordinator of Values Education of the High School Department, Mrs. Corina Galutan and the class advisers for the spiritual growth of their students.

The recollection started last July 22, 2008 at Benedictine Sisters’ Hall of Spirituality, Fatima, Vigan City. There were 1,167 students from 1st year to fourth year level. The third year students finished their journey and encounter with the WORD last month. August will be for the second year and in September, the first year students will have their turn. The fourth year level will journey together in November to end the string of biblical recollections for the youth.

The JPIBC staff designed a module with Bibliodrama elements fitting to the needs of the students, based on each year level’s theme for the recollection. It is a creative new way of presenting the Word of God to young people whose focus and enthusiasm are often blurred by worldly allure.

The module serves as a powerful tool in channeling the Word of God making the yearly recollection effective enabling as well as enhancing the spiritual growth of every student.

…that the WORD will continue to work on the lives of young people. Penetrating their human hearts, and desires to know, to love and to discover more the heavenly treasures they have to possess through Jesus Christ, WORD made flesh, their friend and Saviour.

Themes for Recollections

1st year (233 students) – discovering oneself thru God’s WORD (Discipleship)

2nd year (283 students) – accepting Jesus as my friend and Saviour (Friendship)

3rd year (330 students) – God calls me to love others in loving service (Responsibility)

4th year (316 students) – I am responsible for my moral choices (vocation)
