WORD ALIVE BIBLICAL INSTITUTE – WABI 2008
(DOWNLOAD WABI 2008 BROCHURE: CLICK THIS: wabi-2008-brochure.doc)
The Word Alive Biblical Institute was started in 1991by John Paul I Biblical Center, the service arm of the Northern Luzon Bishops Inc. for the Biblical-Pastoral Ministry, in close collaboration with the faculty and administration of the Immaculate Conception School of Theology. This is a Trainers’ Training Course in the Biblical-Pastoral Ministry for Lay Ministers of the Word. WABI as it is fondly called in this region is partly supported by Kirche in Not / Ostpriesthilfe based in Germany.
THE PARTICIPANTS
The Course is intended for the LAITY.
It is open to:
- any lay Catholic interested in deepening his/her knowledge of the Word of God – maturing in Christian faith;
- those who want to commit themselves as LAY MINISTERS OF THE WORD.
- those who are involved in the Biblical-Pastoral Ministry;
- those who want to imbibe in themselves a prophetic understanding of the bible;
- those who want to become biblical animators and facilitators;
- those who want to proclaim the Word of God in the light of the call for new evangelization.
REQUIREMENTS
- The participant should have working knowledge of the English Language.
- A letter of recommendation by the Parish Priest and/or biblical promoter is needed.
- The age limit is 60 years (some exceptions are possible).
LEARNING PROCESS
WABI promotes the participative-discovery approach to learning. Instead of the one-way lecture approach, the program is both learner-oriented, as it is subject oriented. The participants themselves are empowered to maximize their charisma to animate, facilitate, and coordinate team efforts and participation as servant-leaders. They are expected to come up with output: tools/modules which they can use later on. The course is deepened and made more meaningful (and relevant) through the participants and formators/facilitators sharing their pastoral experiences from their own cultural backgrounds. It is a stay-in program where formators and participants live together as a community.
FORMATORS/FACILITATORS
The Formators-Facilitators of WABI are a formation team from John Paul I Biblical Center, from the Immaculate Conception School of Theology, Vigan City. The team has been involved in community building, pastoral work and formation for a number of years. Other consultants (ECBA-CBCP, bishops, clergy, religious and lay people) who are experts in an area of Biblical Apostolate and Lay Ministry are also invited.
DURATION
The program is designed for two summers (Levels 1 and 2) with three weeks each. A certificate is awarded to the participant after completion of each of the two (2) levels. If the graduate so decides to make a lifetime commitment to the community (local church), the local ordinary and/or the parish priest shall install and commission the candidate as Lay Minister of the Word depending upon the recommendation of the local church (community).

congratulations to you Doms, Fely, Flor, Joel, Suzan and all co-workers in this beautiful Wabi program, starting today!
I see Wabi as an excellent way of confronting persons of good will with the Word; the Word and the Spirit will take over.
I walk with you! Wim in Leuven, Belgium
Now you have started;
how many participants are there at each level?
and where are they from?
I am interested to see what the word does to a person, or even more to a community.
Shalom!
Wim
